In with the new again

Posted by Dips on January 30, 2009

Wow… my running in the past 6 months has cost me my old Kayano 14s. So I had to get myself a new pair of running shoes – I’m pretty sure at the rate I was going at about 40 km a week (except dec when I hit a max of 60km/week for 5 weeks), these shoes really went a long way… about an estimated 1000km. Compared to my old Kayano 13s, this pair ran less but at a very high rate… sheesh. Like dad says, I need shoes made of metal at the rate I’m going. Haha…

This is what it looked like when I bought it

I’ll take a pic when I get it home next week. The gel portion is almost flattened out. =p

And here’s the new Kayano 15.

It seems to be kind of inspired by the Kinsei with extensive heel support (exactly what I need).

The new lacing system and softer material at the toes.

The colour is not so bling too… not to mention, super comfy. I’m gonna test drive them tomorrow.

On a different note, I remember spacing out at the Dracula Romanian Food stall near Queensway about a month ago when I went there with Guang… amusingly, the lady still remembers me from that incident! Hahah… oh man! Her overexcited and uncontrolled laughed ‘HI!‘ to me made it so obvious! Although she was trying her best to hold herself back… but the amusing situation got the better of her! Kin Hoong was laughing his head off… and me too! Haha… all in good fun and I feel like a doofus. =p

On yet another note, I heard this song by Rachid Taha… it’s a cover of an English song but sounds damn hip in the Arabic/English mix… I can’t understand but still it’s awesome! =)

Year of mourning

Posted by Dips on January 30, 2009

Hmmm… I dunno how many times I need to repeat (not mentioned here in a frustrated tone) but I can’t celebrate birthdays, festivals and events for a year (unless within my family).

So although I don’t wish you people happy birthdays, or chinese new years or be involved in any events, that doesn’t mean that I don’t remember but just that I can’t do it.

=)

Abdel Kader

Posted by Dips on January 28, 2009

I found this song randomly on Youtube. It’s by Rachid TahaKhaled Hadj Brahim and Faudel Belloua from the album 1,2,3 Soleils. The mixed genre of  raï music is simply captivating.

Passing

Posted by Dips on January 22, 2009

Err… in light of recent events, maybe I need an outlet and this is the best one.

Sometimes I don’t think so much about her but then one simple thing like mum taking out 4 plates to serve dinner or me threading the needle or turning on the TV in the morning to see her favorite yoga show in the morning brings tears to my eyes.

A couple of days ago a family friend’s wife was remembering how she and me used to be like good friends, with her constantly pulling each other’s leg, talking crap, watching TV together, playing Ludo when I was a kid, cooking her special dishes for me all the time and I can go on and on… So soon everything’s changed so much – and its irreversible.

I will always remember how proud she was of me after every running event I completed.

Thankfully granny passed away peacefully in her sleep within 2 days without much suffering. The two days were bad enough a sight to see – with her falling down from the bed to the point there were visible internal bleeding clots on the body. I will never forget the sight of her during the prayers at home before cremation. Every time I think about it, eyes well up. I can’t bear to see the photos mum and dad took because something inside me burns.

No more celebrations for a year.
